Keeps Your Entire Smile Safe
Periodontal disease, better known as gum disease, is actually one of the most common and damaging dental problems in the entire world. Early symptoms include red, swollen, and tender gums that bleed quite easily, and eventually, it can even lead to tooth loss! At Eaddy Dentistry, we will screen your gums whenever you come to see us, and should we find any signs of gum disease, we’ll quickly be able to take care of it with periodontal therapy. If any of the symptoms we listed above sound familiar, be sure to contact us to get the treatment you need.
Scaling & Root Planing
These treatments are sometimes collectively known as a “deep cleaning,” and they help us manage mild to moderate cases of periodontal disease. First, we’ll use advanced tools to remove and plaque and tartar that has built up around your gum line (scaling), and then we’ll gently reshape the root surfaces of your teeth (root planing). This will make it harder for plaque to gather on them in the future, which will lower your chances of redeveloping gum disease.
After your initial periodontal cleaning, your doctor may choose to use antibiotics to further fight the infection while you are away from our office. This may consist of a topical antibiotic that will be applied directly to your gums, or an oral antibiotic that you will take in pill form. In either case, this will help eliminate any leftover bacteria to ensure that your gums fully recover and that your teeth stay safe.
