Preventive Dentistry in Lakeway
Helps Healthy Smiles Stay That Way
At Eaddy Dentistry, prevention is the name of the game. Why? Because with the services outlined below, Dr. Winston and Dr. Daniel can stop many dental problems before they start, saving you (and your loved ones) from having to get them fixed later! The end result is a strong, beautiful smile and less time spent in the dental office. We recommend coming to see us at least every six months, so if it’s time for your next preventive appointment, don’t hesitate to contact us today.
Checkups & Cleanings
Every beautiful smile we create starts with a checkup and cleaning. It allows your dentist to learn all they can about your dental health so they can better personalize your care and meet your specific needs.
They’ll first perform an oral exam where they’ll look at each of your teeth, your gums, jaw, and any existing dental work to make sure everything is in good shape. If they spot a problem, they’ll be able to quickly intervene before it gets worse. That’s why getting regular checkups is so important!
Then, you’ll receive a refreshing dental cleaning where one of our hygienists will use special tools to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth, making sure to target those areas you can’t reach at home with your brush and floss. This will also help break up light surface stains that could darken your teeth over time.
We just love to take care of Lakeway’s most precious smiles. When you partner with us, we’ll use our expertise to protect your child from cavities, make sure their teeth develop correctly, and provide education so that they know how and why to take care of their teeth at home. We’ll go out of our way to make sure your little one always enjoys calm, cool, and relaxed visits.
A dental sealant is a clear, plastic-based material we can paint directly onto the teeth in order to protect them from decay and cavities. This creates an invisible barrier that plaque, food particles, and bacteria cannot cross, effectively preserving enamel. We typically only need to apply them to the back teeth as they are the most likely to develop cavities, especially for young children. They only take minutes to apply and can help prevent cavities for years afterward.
Nightguards for Bruxism
If you suffer from bruxism, it means that you unconsciously clench your jaw and grind your teeth while you sleep. This is a very common condition, and left untreated, it can wear down the teeth to the point that they eventually break! To help you rest a little easier, we can recommend they you wear something called a nightguard to bed. This custom-made mouthpiece will place a protective barrier between your teeth to keep them safe during the night.
Mouthguards & Sportsguards
If you or your child regularly participate in sports, then you should definitely invest in a custom-made mouthguard. Dental injuries account for up to 40% of all sports injuries, and most of them can be easily avoided simply by wearing a mouthguard during play. We can design one that is specially shaped to fit a patient’s teeth, which will not only make it more comfortable, but strong and durable as well.
Oral Cancer Screening
Nearly 50,000 Americans were diagnosed with oral cancer last year, and many will sadly not survive the next five years simply because the disease was caught too late. Oral cancer is actually very treatable when detected early, which is why our doctors recommend that all adults should receive at least one oral cancer screening per year. Dr. Winston or Dr. Daniel can perform one as part of your regular checkups, and should they find anything that causes concern, they can help you take quick and appropriate action.
If you’ve ever brushed your teeth with an American Dental Association approved toothpaste, then you’ve already benefited from the teeth strengthening qualities of fluoride. The same is true whenever you drink tap water as well! To give your family’s smiles a little bit of extra protection between appointments, we will provide a topical fluoride treatment as part of your regular checkups. It only takes a few minutes, is painless, and it’s one of the best ways we can keep everyone cavity-free year to year.
